From the UK to DC comes the frontman of the Crosstown Rebels, Damian Lazarus. With the sunsetting on the DC metropolitan area, comes the dark vibrations of the London DJ, sparking a unified beat for everyone to dance to.
Immediately walking into the Muse Lounge, it was difficult to not be impressed by opening DJ, Joel Chandler, and his fluid transition of hefty beats. It was almost misteken to be the more recognized Lazarus. Chandler proved his knowledge of not only the music, but the people, the environment, and the essence of this culture.
As the night progressed, the place became more crowded and more sweaty of people dancing. Chandler finished his set off sweetly, to pass the torch off to Lazarus who eased his way into the crowd of energetic people hungry for more.
After hitting the bar for a drink, I was able to make my way to the front without being stampeded on. People were moving gracefully around my beer, which was to my delight. It was a very respectful crowd, not too poisoned for a good time. Lazarus intereacted with the crowd, not as if he were a puppet master, but as if he were a comrade handing out presents.
The night was one of the better nights in DC. Walking through the crowds of wild eyed people should’ve brought gratification to anyone’s soul. There are a few nights where there’s a sense of disassociative feelings across everyone’s face. Not tonight. There was not one person who wasn’t enjoying themselves.
Damian Lazarus went through his array of deep techno beats while maintaining a steady blend of soulful samples. He is occasionally noted for his wandering as he likes to experiment with new sounds. There was a bit of this, yet it wasn’t too carried away as he knew what the crowd wanted to listen to.
This to me was what the nightlife is all about. Not something to hold for yourself, but to share with everyone who enjoys the same nuances of life.
